Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Everybody's Doin' that Rag

So on the way home yesterday i was listening to 2/27/69 and Rag came on....I don't really care for the tune that much, but it always seems to grab me during the jam out of the tune at the end...It reminded me of a converstaion I had on another forum where I was discussing how well JK played that jam out when I saw Furthur in Lewiston this past summer...So, my question is what are the best versions of Rag out there.....Anyone even listened to this tune enough to rate the different ones??

Personally I love this song. One of those songs that grows on you for sure. I wasn't crazy about it the first time I heard it. Listened to a few inspiring versions and have loved it ever since. I love JK's take on the song as well. Try some of these versions below. At the least you will surely enjoy the jamming towards the latter part of the song:

Love that song!

"Don't neglect to pick up
What your share is.
All the winter birds are winging home now..."

Love the jam into the final accapella ending:

"Everywhere I go
The people all know.
Everybody's doing that rag"

That 2/27/69 you played has to be near the top.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone....I would agree that 2/27 is one of the best after hearing a few of the suggestions....That Rag Seven combo is outta this world as well.

I know that there can be little comparison, but *really* I enjoyed http://www.archive.org/details/paf2000-09-21.mg210.pasternak.98374.flac16
Rag>Sunshine of Your Love(!)
This was the:
debut of the song w/P&F (I think),
One for (Alan) Woody (may God grant him Peace) Benefit Show,
debut of the lineup:
Phil Lesh - bass / vocals
John Molo - drums
Warren Haynes - guitar
Jimmy Herring - guitar
Rob Barraco - keys

Love this tune. Lyrics, drumming, cadence, jammy outro ( tho never long enough imho) I imagine this tune became a pain in the ass to sing.
All the recs youve recieved are tops.

Not one of the more extended outro jams, but this one has a certain slickness I like alot.

Tim, the sound quality renders the recording somewhat of a challenge to enjoy, but I dig the uber jammed out 9/29/69 Doin' That Rag-> The Seven...
